Mike

Another year and a half has passed since I updated this section and with Christmas just around the corner, I thought it would be a good time to finally do so! We continue to travel as much as we can; we visited our friends in/around Seattle back in February. Mike took a long weekend trip to Bryce Canyon and then onto Las Vegas. Then Erin and Mike ventured all the way up to Barrow, Alaska to walk on the Arctic Ocean (frozen of course) in April when the temps didn't get much ABOVE -10 degrees - Yikes! We took a great weeklong trip to the Portland area with the boys around Memorial Day. In July, we spent around 3 weeks away from home as we drove to Montana for a spell, then on to San Francisco where we spent a few nights before we meandered our way back home via a couple of National Parks (Lassen Volcanic, Yosemite, Great Basin, Colorado National Monument).

Mike and his friend Jon then took a long weekend trip to hit a bunch more National Parks in Utah and Southwest Colorado (Arches, Mesa Verde, Black Canyon of the Gunnison). They proceeded to "accidentally" take the Civic 4-wheeling in land very close to the home of the one and only Joe Cocker. For Labor Day, we ventured back to Rockford, Illinois to hang out with Erin's Brother's family, stopping by the Field Of Dreams on the way. In October, Erin and Mike took another adults-only vacation to Las Vegas to hang out with their friend Chad. And then in November, Mike decided to surprise his family in New York for a short visit. The fun continues later this month when we head back to San Diego for part of the holidays.

Our family has been to 11 different National Parks this year and 12 states (not counting Colorado). We're looking forward to a Disney World trip next year too. We feel very lucky that we're able to show our kids some of the beautiful parts of the country and have some great adventures (like almost running out of gas somewhere in the middle of Oregon).

Shockingly, Mike is still working at Lockheed Martin - already now his longest tenured job at just shy of 2 years! Erin still keeps crazy busy with the boys and all of their activities. Jacob is now in preschool 2 days a week and loving it. Potty training was a requirement and that's been a huge success this year. Jacob has played Basketball, Soccer, and continued ice skating and swim lessons and Zack also takes a few classes such as art and music as time permits. Zack continues to grow his vocabulary exponentially and loves to mimic his older brother. They recently moved into the same room together in their own bunk beds and they love it (and yes, they actually do sleep too!).

It's hard to believe that our boys are already 2 and 4 years old. Zack had his birthday party at Chuck E. Cheese this past year and Jacob chose to have a pool party at the local rec center just last month.

Well I guess that wraps up 2009 (and the end of 2008). I hope your year was as good as ours! Talk to you next time...
