Welcome to Mike's Volleyball Page!

In honor of me making the volleyball team here at the University of Wales Aberystwyth, I have decide to make this page, dedicated to volleyball at UWA. I really don't know what to put on this page quite yet, but I might put some photos of the team and the such if I feel like it. So if you have any suggestions, e-mail me, or just wait and come back later for more info.

Our first matches were on 3 November. We played away at an R.A.F. base outside of Cardiff (about a 2.5 hour drive). The first match was against the R.A.F. Saints. They defeated us 0-15,13-15,11-15. After we actually started playing volleyball, we handled the next team, Glamorgan, with relative ease, 15-4,15-9,11-15,15-12.

The second match was played on 17 November. We played a very excellent Swansea University team and played them well. We were defeated 8-15,10-15,15-10,8-15. Overall, we were content...we played alright and had a good time. The other team failed to show up, but we, being the sportsman that we are, said we would reschedule it for a later date. Afterwards, we all enjoyed ourselves at a local bowling alley. It was a rather fun trip.

The weekend of the 23-24 November was a busy one here in Aberystwyth. We hosted a tournament of all the Universities in Wales. Overall, our team ended up in 4th place, barely missing the cut for entry into the British League. We felt like we played well against some really good teams. Our first match on Saturday was agains Cardiff University. We lost in straight sets, 9-15, 4-15 (best of 3 sets until the semi-finals). The next match however, was unforgettable. It was against Cardiff Institute. We were down in the first set, 8-14, but rattled off 8 straight points to pull out a nail-biter, 16-14. We were down again in the second set, 7-12, came back to tie, but couldn't overcome them this time, losing 12-15. The final set is considered a tie-break set, and is therefore played "rally point" where every ball counts a point (i.e. if you screw up your serve, the other team gets the ball as well as a point). It again was intense, but we maintained out composure to win another close set, 15-13. So the final was 16-14, 12-15, 15-13. It was a very exciting day, indeed. The next day we had our work cut out for us in playing Swansea in our first match. They pretty much handled us with relative ease, 4-15, 6-15. The final match of the weekend for us was against Glamorgan, who we beat in our first match of the season. We lost a heartbreaker, 10-15, 10-15, 15-4, 7-15. But on the whole, I felt like the team played well, and we all seemed to have a pretty good time.

Action Photos!!!

Only a couple turned out well enough to scan and put on the net. I do have a few more on my current roll as well, so as soon as they are developed, I will probably post some more.
